Special Events We Can’t Wait For This Summer At DMDC
It’s our favorite time of year: flowers bloom, the sun shines, and another great summer at Deer Mountain Day Camp is just around the corner.
Every spring, we like to remind ourselves of the traditions that make summer at DMDC so special. Many have been around since our parents founded camp in 1956. All have been enjoyed by countless generations of campers.
Between one spirited Olympics, two camp-wide carnivals, and countless wacky themed dress up days, every summer weaves another thread into our rich tapestry of tradition. Explore a few of our favorite special events to get excited for an awesome summer 2016!
It’s A Town Affair: Carnivals
Twice each summer, we fill our fields with giant blow up rides, old school carnival games, and yummy foods like cotton candy and popcorn. Our favorite part about carnival (and our campers’, too, we think) is the decades-old tradition of campers running their own game booths. It’s a great opportunity for them to feel creative, confident, and in charge!
When the games are done, campers take their tickets to the rec hall and exchange them for fun prizes—stickers, stuffed animals, you name it. All relics from a great day.
The Spirit Is On: Olympics
Friendly competition is a staple of camp fun. During Olympics, camp divides into two teams represented by our traditional colors: green and white. The spirit is palpable—and so much fun.
Our Olympic teams always have creative themes our campers won’t soon forget. You can imagine Avengers v. Justice league was a hit with our junior boys!
Olympics is also a chance to experience all DMDC has to offer in a vivid way. Campers learn choreographed songs and dances for their teams, face off in good-natured sports matches, and participate in decades-old traditions like our spectacular surprise break-outs. It’s a great way to feel part of DMDC’s history.
Embrace Your Inner Character: Dress Up Days
Every week at DMDC is marked by something special. Theme days aren’t just for dress-up. We go all out.
Ariel and Sebastian show up at our Under the Sea Pool parties. Campers transform their counselors into the superhero of their choice for Superhero Runway day. Junior boys transform into pirates and hunt for treasures and gold. Don’t worry—we’ll have tons of pictures for you to browse on our website!
