Where is Deer Mountain Day Camp?
Deer Mountain Day Camp is located in Rockland County at 63 Call Hollow Road, Pomona, NY. Located just off exit 13 of the Palisades Interstate Parkway, we are approximately 45 minutes by car from Manhattan and a short ride from most areas in Bergen, Orange and Rockland Counties.
Who works at Deer Mountain?
The Deer Mountain Staff Team includes a select group of smart, fun, creative, energetic and dependable people who love camp and enjoy working with children. Our staff is a terrific mix of recent high school graduates, college students, graduate students, teachers and other qualified adults. Of course, we also have former Deer Mountain campers, graduates of our CIT program, serving on our staff team.
Where do most staff members come from? How do they get to camp?
Deer Mountain staff members live within driving distance from camp. They come from Rockland County, Bergen County, Orange County and New York City. Some staff members serve as bus counselors, who supervise our campers on their rides to and from camp each day, and, therefore take camp transportation to work. The rest of our staff team use their own form of transportation.
Where do most campers come from?
Campers come to camp via camp transportation and live locally in Rockland County, Bergen County, Orange County and New York City.
When does the camp season begin? When does it end?
The first day of camp is Monday, June 30th, the last day is Friday, August 22nd. Camp is closed on Friday, July 4th for the 4th of July holiday. Each staff member is expected to attend 2 1/2 days of pre-camp orientation designed to prepare them for the summer.
How old are Deer Mountain's Campers?
Deer Mountain offers programs for children ranging in age from 3 to 15. We have a Nursery program for 3 & 4 years olds, a Freshman program for campers entering Kindergarten or completing Kindergarten, a Junior program for campers who've completed 1st or 2nd grade, an Inter program for campers who've completed 3rd & 4th grade, a Senior program which includes some travel options for campers who've completed 5th & 6th grade and a Teen program which includes even more travel options for campers who've completed 7th & 8th grade. Campers completed with 9th grade participate in our Counselor In Training Program.
