Leading the way over the past five decades, we've developed a definite formula for success in Swimming. Based on the American
Red Cross Learn To Swim Program, our approach combines the attributes of a wonderful, age appropriate facility, an experienced
staff and a consistent delivery of safe, caring and fun instruction. Whether a camper is taking their first step into the
water or learning the butterfly stroke, each is given instruction tailored to his or her ability level. And, all of our campers
feel great because we celebrate each of their accomplishments along the way! We take great pride in the accolades we've received
over the years, but nothing beats the "I did it!" moments we share with our campers throughout each summer.

Our facility boasts 6 heated pools, each designed for a particular age group. Graded in depth to match the physical
requirements of the campers who swim in them, our pools are also heated to about 82 degrees to create a comfortable
setting in which our campers can learn and have fun.

Each pool is lead by at least one Waterfront Director who holds a WSI (Water Safety Instructor) Certification and is
thereby certified to implement the American Red Cross Swim Program. Our Waterfront Directors also hold Head Lifeguard
and Lifeguard Certifications which qualify them to manage the safety issues associated with guarding the waterfront.
Our Waterfront Directors lead a terrific group of college aged lifeguards who assist with instruction and guarding.
Pre-camp training is completed to ensure that each team members' guarding and instructional skills are up to par with
our standards.

Each Deer Mountain camper swims at least twice a day, enjoying one period of instructional swim and one period of
recreational swim. During swim instruction, we keep our swim groups small with only 5-7 campers per instructor.
Campers are placed in appropriate instructional groups based on age and ability. They get plenty of personal
attention as well as many opportunities to practice their skills. While we take a gentle approach to teaching,
encouraging each camper to progress at his or her own rate, we don't hold back those campers who are moving forward
more quickly. If a camper is pushing a level being taught at a particular pool, we will move them to a pool with
more advanced instruction.

During recreational swim, campers have time to swim with their friends and just have fun. On hot weather days, we
increase the number of recreational swims throughout the day so that campers get more time in the water.
