Nature & Wilderness
Deer Mountain's breathtaking mountainside location serves as a wonderful backdrop for our Nature & Pioneering Center. By incorporating animals, plants, trees, pond life and environmental awareness with pioneering and camping skills, our program is designed to teach, enlighten and entertain. Deer Mountain also boasts a petting zoo with small farm animals, a nature garden as well as a complete campsite.
Deer Mountain's beautiful natural lake provides an ideal setting for Canoeing, Row Boating, Paddle Boating, Bumper Boating, Kayaking and Fishing. Just like any other area in camp, safety, comfort and fun are key. Our lake front is led by a Red Cross certified boating director and lifeguard who collaborates with an assistant and our group counselors when our campers visit the lake.
Our Challenge Course has low ropes elements, a climbing wall and a zip line. This is an area of camp that boosts a child's self-confidence and builds teamwork like no other. Our specially trained facilitators coach campers in a noncompetitive and cooperative atmosphere to work together. Watching the difference between a camper approaching the course for the very first time compared to their visits toward the end of the summer is incredible.
We have regularly scheduled Pony Rides for our younger campers and optional Horseback Riding Lessons for our older campers who want a more advanced experience.
