Our Philosophy

Send your child to Deer Mountain, and we’ll promise to listen and understand. Under our insightful watch, your child will open up as themselves, try new things, feel connected to our community—and form authentic bonds and memories that will last well into adulthood.

Starting with our deeply involved camp directors, second-generation owners Roberta and Carol Katz, every staff member at DMDC believes we’re here to produce a better tomorrow, one child at a time. Basking in unmitigated positivity and nurturing encouragement, campers both discover what they’re good at—and embrace what they love.

Before your child arrives for the summer, we make sure to get clear on context. We work to understand your own expectations as well as the story your child brings to our community. We’ll partner with you to provide him or her the best possible camp experience.

You’ll come to anticipate calls from us throughout the summer—whether it’s regarding a first goal, a newfound interest, or a noteworthy friendship. If there’s a challenge, we inform you—and work to solve it together. When you send your child to Deer Mountain, our directors are a guaranteed part of the equation—and a valuable resource for you. Multiple layers of staff communication invite you to share in your child’s experience, every step of the way.

Your child will flourish at Deer Mountain. Come take a tour.

In this age of mega-camps, Deer Mountain is a rare breed. We chose it as the only camp that combines an intimate size, beautiful setting, extensive program, and feeling of a great summer camp. –Josh W, NYC
