A Family Affair

Founded in 1956, Deer Mountain Day Camp is a family legacy.  Sisters Roberta & Carol Katz are second generation Owners & Directors.

Our Directors

Roberta Katz

Roberta spent every summer of her childhood as a camper.  A ranked competitive tennis player through college, her counselor years were spent teaching in Deer Mountain’s tennis program.  She has been an active Owner & Director since 1992.  Roberta genuinely believes in what camp can do for children and has seen firsthand the hundreds of children who have grown up over the years at Deer Mountain and have stayed on to become counselors and wonderful friends.  To Roberta, the opportunity to partner with camp families and staff to carry on her family's legacy is truly a gift.

Roberta holds a BS in Economics from the Wharton School and a BAS from the School of Engineering and Applied Science from the University of Pennsylvania.  She returned to Penn to earn her MBA from the Wharton School where she also worked in the Small Business Development Center as a consultant.  Roberta has served on the Executive Committee of the American Camp Association-NY Section as Vice President of Day Camps as well as Secretary.  She has also served on the Board of Trailblazers, a not for profit camp.

Carol Katz

Carol also spent every summer of her childhood as a camper.  Carol too was a ranked competitive tennis player through college and spent time teaching in Deer Mountain’s tennis program during her counselor years.  She has been an active Owner & Director since 2003.  To Carol, camp means knowing our campers, training our counselors and getting involved in activities throughout the summer.  Carol has an extensive background in both child and professional development, two skill sets that add unmatchable value to Deer Mountain everyday.

Carol holds a BA in Human Development from Cornell University and a Masters in Education with a focus on Learning Sciences from Northwestern University.  Her professional experience includes work at Classroom Inc., where she designed educational software and worked with school systems throughout the country to integrate problem based software into the classroom.  Carol also worked at Children's Television Workshop and Channel 13.
